Rescue teams are desperately searching for survivors after a catastrophic midair collision between a Black Hawk helicopter and a commercial passenger jet over Washington, D.C.
Nineteen bodies have already been recovered from the icy Potomac River.
According to local reports, the impact split the plane in half near Reagan National Airport in Virginia on Wednesday night.

Flight 5342, a regional jet operating for American Airlines and traveling from Wichita, Kansas, collided with the military chopper while approaching the runway for landing. The crash occurred around 9 p.m. Washington Airport time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Over 300 first responders rushed to the scene as divers searched the frigid waters. The plane carried 60 passengers and four crew members, while the helicopter had three people on board at the time of the accident.

Authorities are still working tirelessly, with sources indicating that remains of more than 30 individuals have been recovered so far.
American Airlines has expressed its deep concern for those on board and is cooperating with authorities in the ongoing emergency response efforts.
