US Navy ‘Super Hornet’ Worth $100 Million Crashes Into San Diego Bay

A U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet crashed into San Diego Bay on Wednesday, forcing two pilots to eject before impact.

The aircraft, one of the most powerful in the American military fleet, went down near Shelter Island around 10:15 a.m. local time. Emergency response teams, including San Diego Fire and Rescue, quickly arrived at the scene.

While the cause of the crash remains unclear, initial reports suggest that rough weather off the West Coast may have played a role.

Both pilots successfully ejected before impact and were rescued from the water. They were transported to UC San Diego Medical Center, though their conditions have not yet been disclosed.

The crash occurred near the shoreline, close to the Kona Kai San Diego Resort and other waterfront businesses. Military officials are continuing to investigate the incident.
